About

Welcome to Broken Birch, a homestead/farming blog sharing recipes and information about homesteading, farming, family, and more. Join us on our journey as we explore the joys and challenges of living off the land, and learn together about sustainable living and traditional skills.

Hey there, I’m Samantha, a suburbanite turned homesteader over at Broken Birch Acres. It all started when my daughter was born—I wanted her to grow up surrounded by nature and learning valuable skills, so we took the leap into homesteading.

Living this life has completely changed how I see the world. We’re all about organic, regenerative practices now, always looking for ways to help our little corner of the Earth thrive.

The best part? Seeing the fruits of our labor—literally! Whether it’s the home-canned goods from our garden, the cheese from our cows’ milk, or just seeing our animals happy and healthy, it’s incredibly rewarding.

One of the most exciting moments was when our first cow calved. It was touch and go for a bit, but we managed to care for both mom and calf, despite having no farming background. It was a proud moment for us!

Homesteading isn’t just a part of our lives—it is our life. We’re all in, dedicating ourselves to this lifestyle full-time.

If you’re thinking about homesteading, my advice is to start learning now, even if you’re not ready to make the move. There’s so much you can do, even in the city, like cooking from scratch, canning, and gardening.

As for the future, we’ve got big dreams for Broken Birch Acres. We hope to expand our land, add more animals, and really make a go of it. Who knows what the future holds, but we’re excited for the journey!
